Deep in Papua, Indonesia
With two friends, I set out on a wild journey into one of the most remote corners of the world Papua, Indonesia. After landing in Jayapura, we caught a small local flight to Wamena, where we met our guide, who surprised us by bringing along his three kids, an unexpected but wonderful addition to the adventure.
For five days, we hiked deep into the highlands, pushing through thick jungle, slippery mud, sharp rocks, and steep, rain-soaked hills. Despite it being the dry season, we were drenched daily. We crossed countless makeshift bridges, crafted entirely from vines, logs, and other natural materials, dangling over fast flowing rivers. Each crossing was both terrifying and exhilarating.
At night, we stayed in remote villages, sharing simple meals with locals and kicking a football around with the kids. We witnessed a way of life that has remained unchanged for generations, raw, resilient, and deeply connected to nature. It was a tough, muddy, and unforgettable experience that stripped life down to its essentials and opened our eyes to a completely different world.
